What to Expect

It is our sincere hope and prayer that you will find at the Heritage Church of Christ a group of Christians who are friendly and welcoming to all, and a group of Christians who are true to the Bible in their worship and practices. Here are some details:

A FRIENDLY AND WELCOMING CHURCH

Regardless of your religious background, we want you to feel wanted and at ease when you visit us at any of our services. Men and women who are members at Heritage are present each Sunday at the entrances to Moore school where we meet. Others are just inside at our welcoming table. These people will say hello, shake your hand, and do all they can to convey the message, “We’re glad you came to be with us today.” Other members of the congregation will introduce themselves and ask you about you and your family. Are you new to the community? Are you a Christian, or just curious about the Christian faith? Are you looking for a church home? Tell us about your family – married, children, etc. What do you do for a living? Just general questions to try to get to know you a little.

You will be invited to have a seat in the room where we hold our worship services. When the offering is taken, we do not expect you to make a contribution. Our members support the church financially, but guests are never asked to do so. If you are a Christian, please join in any of our worship activities during the service. If you are not a Christian, feel free to observe what we do and if you have questions, after the service ask our ministers or our elders about these activities. We would be pleased and honored to tell you how to become a Christian and a member of our church family.

We will invite you to stay for any of our Bible classes, which are held after worship on Sunday mornings. There are classes for all age groups. This is a one-hour period during which we study the Bible and seek ways to apply its messages to our daily lives. You may participate and offer comments whether or not you are a member of our congregation.

You will also be invited to attend our other services. We have another period of worship, prayer and study each Sunday evening at 6 P.M. And we meet each Wednesday night at 7 P.M. for prayer and Bible study. If you have something or someone you would like us to pray for, please come to this service and let us know your prayer request.

One thing we will not do is pressure you to become a Christian or a member of our church or try to make you feel obligated in any way. Yes, we want everyone to be a Christian, just as Jesus and his apostles did. But, like they, we know this must be your decision and it has to come from your heart. We will not judge you for any religious decision you make. Such decisions are between you and God.

A CHURCH THAT TRIES TO BE TRUE TO THE BIBLE

For more information, please go to the “About Us” box and then click on the “Beliefs” page on the pull-down menu or on the menu on the right. Here we will explain in detail what we believe and why.

What we hope you will find at Heritage is a congregation that looks to the Bible for instructions, answers, guidance, and inspiration. We have no other source of authority. No written creeds, no rule books, no legal documents setting the parameters of who is and is not a Christian. Just the Bible. There are many good books on religion and spirituality, written by sincere and knowledgeable men and women. Some of these are helpful to Christians. But we believe there is only one place to go to find out what God expects of people and how to have a right relationship with Him. That one place is the Holy Bible, which we believe to be the inspired Word of God Himself. David, the king of ancient Israel said to God, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path” (Psalm 119:105). In a letter he wrote, the Apostle Paul commended the young Christian, Timothy, saying, “…you have known the Holy Scriptures which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. All Scripture is God-breathed, and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2nd Timothy 3:15-17).

In keeping with our strong belief that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the sole source of authority in matters of spirituality, Heritage offers several Bible classes for both children and adults. These studies are designed to discover the original meaning of the inspired writers and to learn how these truths should be applied to our lives. The Bible is filled with so much wisdom and so many great truths, it needs to be read daily and studied often. Each time you read from a passage in the Bible, you are likely to find some new meaning, a greater truth than you found years ago when your faith was young and your perspective was different.

It is our fervent prayer that the world will come to know and respect the Bible, the Holy Word of God. At Heritage, we are striving to learn from this great book and to put its teachings into practice.
